Months after a zombie plague has wiped out 90 percent of the American population, a small group of survivors fight their way cross-country to a rumored refuge on the island of Catalina.

As the film opens we are told and shown how the world was wiped out by a virus that turned people in zombies, it quickly shifts to a group of people who are making their way across Los Angeles to get to Catalina Island where it is suppose to be zombie free. There's really not much more to the story here but I wasn't expected anything ground-breaking either. All I was looking for here was a fun zombie flick with decent acting and lots of action and that's about what I got. The Asylum Entertainment was always at their best when they were making all those Indie horror films back it their early days so I was looking forward to seeing a zombie film from them. One of first things I noticed was that they went out and got a great cast to be in the film including Ving Rhames and Taryn Manning, Rhames is the headliner here for sure and brings a lot of star power to the film while Manning sadly plays a character that needs protected more than anything else. The rest of the cast did a great job as well, this is certainly an ensemble piece so no one actor really steals the show here.

As far as the story goes it's simple like I said so don't expect anything new or original here, the effects I thought were fun, there's loads of spraying blood and the the ending was a bit cheesy but I give them a lot of credit for making something a bit different at least and without spoiling it I will just say the effects at the end were pretty cool considering the budget and all.

"2012 Zombie Apocalypse" is a fun flick with loads of action and a brisk pace, lots of zombies and heads are flying. I have seen better and I have seen a lot worse zombie films before, this one was a fun flick with a great cast, everyone looked like they had a blast making the film and it translates back to the audience.

If you're a zombie fan then I recommend checking this one out, it's not perfect by any means but it offers all the necessary ingredients for an entertaining watch. The DVD comes with Special Features that include:
