When 15-year-old Billy (Harrison Gilbertson) is involved in an accident, he becomes comically unhinged, and soon his family -- including an emotionally detached father (Joel Tobeck), a resentful mother (Geena Davis) and an aloof brother (Harry Cook) -- is launched into a downward spiral of dysfunction. This little Indie film benefits from a number of good things, first off Geena Davis is terrific as a depressed, disillusioned wife and mother. She really sunk her teeth into this role, truly amazing work. Plus Harry Cook did a fantastic job as the 15-year old son, he really made his character believable and you really feel for him in the film. I see a bright future ahead for this young talent. The rest of the cast both adult and children are amazing as well. The cinematography and music in the film really put you back in the 80's, everything about the film is perfect. Accidents Happen is a clever and original gem that is so many things including funny, sad and smart. You are taken in by it's story from the opening frames you can't take your eyes off the screen the entire rest of the way. This is a film about life and among all the accidents that occur it some how avoids become bleak and instead it shows a flicker of hope.
Accidents Happen is a "dramedy" that will have you laughing and crying and you will be effected by it long after it is over. Whatever you do don't miss out on seeing this one folks, its one of those rare films that only comes along every so often. Both the DVD and BLU-ray contain Special Features that include:
