members of the Aryan Brotherhood hijack an airliner piloted by Joe Franklin (Scott Valentine), the younger brother of the President of the United States (Meredith Baxter) and threaten to kill his family if imprisoned members of their group are not freed. Also aboard the plane are a Secret Service agent and a novice sky marshal, but it is up to the president to make the life-or-death decisions before disaster strikes.
Airline Disaster is a action film in the skies like "Air Force One" and "Turbulence", it may not have the budget those two movies had but that doesn't make it any less entertaining. The story is pretty simple and there is not much more to add than what is already written above but there are several reasons why this was as enjoyable as it was. For starters the effects which are not what you expect if watching a big budget Hollywood film but they are effective enough to help enhance the story and are only used to do so which is both smart and effective. Secondly the cast here is impressive, that doesn't come as a surprise though since The Asylum has been able to bring many popular stars from the past on-board for their films as of late so they must be doing something right. Meredith Baxter plays the President and sister of the pilot whose plane has been hi-jacked, this is a state of the art plane, the first of it's kind on it's first flight. Meredith does a fine job and gives a convincing performance as the leader who must make a very tough decision before it is too late. Scott Valentine plays the pilot, you may remember him from the hit Television show "Family Ties". Scott too gives a realistic performance as a man held hostage at gun point while he waits to see what his kidnappers are going to do next. Lindsey McKeon stars as Special Agent Gina Vitale who happens to be on the plane at the time, Lindsey packs some mean fighting skills while still looking beautiful, she has the perfect combo and is very conovincing at kicking butt. The film also stars Sarah Lieving who plays the pilot's wife who is held hostage on the ground with her two children to insure the pilot does what he is told. Sarah use to be an Asylum regular, appearing in many of their earlier films. She was always my favorite with loads of talent and the looks to match. Airline Disaster plays out more like a made for Television film but it has enough action and suspense to make it entertaining enough till it's exciting climax. This is something different for The Asylum but at the same time it was refreshing if not original. I certainly had a good time watching it and if you're a fan of this type of thriller then I recommend picking it up, it is a fun-filled ride.
