When former sharpshooter Will Drayton (Jim Hilton) moves out West after the Civil War, he falls in with a band of outlaws who hire him as an assassin -- until a change of heart drives the sniper to take up ranching and get on the right side of the law. But when U.S. Marshal Ian McHenry (David Carradine) comes calling, Drayton must once again take up the gun, this time against the very gang he once rode with.

Jim Hilton brings his first time acting and writing skills to this low-budget western that seems to borrow story-lines from several others to make this one. Westerns are a popular genre but I think many of you out there that are used to watching only the mainstream, high budget productions will not be able to make it through this one. Since the film was shot on limited funds you have to deal with mostly a cast of unknowns and the sets seem to be reused during the film but the movie does have a few redeeming qualities about it. One and probably the biggest is this sadly marks David Carradine's last film in the genre before his untimely death and even though his role is sort of limited he manages to make the film much better than it would of been without him. Jim Hilton also does a fine considering it is his role and his writing skills do show a lot of promise also him and Carradine show some very good chemistry when their on screen together. All Hell broke Loose does suffer from it's obvious budget but I do think it is ambitious enough to over come many of it's flaws. The story is pretty much run-of-the-mill and I think it is only for devoted fans of westerns and the late Carradine but I do recommend to those would like he genre to give it a shot.
