an urban drama exploring the lives of two junior-college basketball players and their struggles within broken homes, college athletics and a divided city. Because of circumstances beyond their control, both players are drawn into an underground world of gambling and crime on the courts of the city's tough north side. Their dedication and love for basketball transcends the playground courts, reaching into their dysfunctional households, where the boys play the constant role of father figure. Together, John Hogan and Jacob Whitmore paint a sad and hopeful portrait with their innocence, concerns and faith in the unknown.
I am not going to go alot more details about the film, above is enough and this is a film that really needs to be seen to fully appreciate. Even if you're not a fan of basketball because the film is so much more than just that a basketball movie. This is a realistic, often sad and yet inspirational film I think should be shown to every teenager today. The film would be great schools for the older students as well as it sends some excellent messages. Director, Matthew Scott Krentz also stars in the with former University of Missouri basketball player Jimmy McKinney who co-stars as John's one time competitor, who eventually becomes a source of solace and strength as they cope with family dysfunction and poverty. Certainly not family fare but the film not only contains basketball action but more importantly it contains lessons learned and messages that are sure to inspire anyone who sees it. The film shows that we all have our own problems black or white, urban or suburban. Every family has their issues so from that perspective we are all the same.
Easily one of the best sports movies ever made but beyond that it's just a terrific film in general, an Independent gem that deserves to be seen. The DVD comes with Special Features that include:
