A reporter, C.J. Nicholas (Jesse Metcalfe), who sets himself up as the prime suspect in a murder he didn't commit in order to expose Hunter's misdeeds. Nicholas's plans go awry, however, when Hunter discovers the trap and destroys the evidence that would exonerate the cub reporter.
'Beyond a Reasonable Doubt' is a remake of the 1956 film noir and I got to say I am not a fan of remakes of any kind but I was willing to give this a chance since the cast included Michael Douglas and Amber Tamblyn. The film starts off good enough but over-all it lacked in the suspense department, at least for a film such as this and there was just too many plot holes in it to take it serious. That being said I still felt it as entertaining enough to enjoy, I am sure the cast helped me in feeling that way. I think the biggest problem with the film was the direction, perhaps a different director would of taken the story and made it a bit more suspenseful which as it stands it isn't. If you are a fan of thrillers like this and the cast are going to most likely over-look it's flaws some so if you like the genre I still recommend giving it a chance and making up your own mind on it. The biggest thing the film has going for it is it's cast, they all do a great job with the material at hand and they are the difference of this being a theatrical film or a direct to video. I am a big fan of Douglas so I enjoyed this more than others have so I recommend a rental to those of you that find it attractive enough to watch.
