A group of troubled teens are sent to a rehabilitation program housed in a remote camp on the island of Fiji. What their parents believe is a state-of-the-art deluxe institution in a beautiful natural environment turns out to be a prison-like boot camp where they are abused and brainwashed. Meanwhile her boyfriend, Ben, forces a situation at home to be sent to the same boot camp and escape with Sophie.
Boot Camp is inspired by true events, instead of taking one event that happened it kinda takes more of the idea of these camps which are located around the world as a way to avoid not being under any American law and makes its own film about it. Before even watching this I already liked the idea behind it and was looking forward to seeing it and what I got was an entertaining film as well as an important one. The cast was very good, the lead actors all did a terrific job and I never really watched much of "That 70's Show" but I got to say I was really impressed with Mila Kunis who plays Sophie, the girl sent to this boot camp. This young lady is as talented as she is beautiful and I see her star rising in Hollywood in the next few years. Gregory Smith was also great as her boyfriend Ben, hell bent on getting her off the island before it is too late. There has been Island based thrillers like this before but none based off true events that I can remember and I think the whole idea of this really happening is a big draw for this movie and one that will create a lot of rentals. The production values are very good here, the soundtrack is amazing and the Island setting is fantastic and it really adds to the over-all feeling of being stuck in a place that is not friendly with no hope of getting away. The story is well-written even if it seemed to add a lot to itself for entertainment value but it still got the point across. The film is thought-provoking, you wonder just how many of these boot camps still exist today and how many kids are taken away to them on a daily basis, some of them never returning home. Scary really but hopefully in some way this film will open the eyes of those who might be able to do something about it all before more kids are beaten or killed. I found Boot Camp to be a melting pot of drama and action as well as a touch of romance but mainly it is a brutal thriller that delivers on what it promises and it has an ending worth dying for.
