Executive producer Eli Roth presents this reboot of his instant classic gorefest, which features all new characters and all new kills. The story is familiar: fresh out of college, a group of five friends retreat to a remote cabin in the woods for one last week of partying—only to become snacks for a gruesome, flesh-eating virus. What’s surprising are the ingenious new deaths, which offer a fresh spin on a horror-comedy milestone.

I am not a fan of remakes but I do not mind them if the new film brings new ideas and adds to the original in some way. A good example of that was the Remake to "The Crazies" which took a very low budget film and simply made it better. Travis Zariwny's film is basically a scene for scene remake of Eli Roth's original with some minor changes,I really enjoyed the original film. I am not complaining that it followed the original film so closely but I do have a problem with it not improving on the original film. In fact it takes a step backwards in my opinion.

First let me talk about some of the things I liked about the original film, first was the cast that includes, Gage Golightly, Matthew Daddario, Nadine Crocker, Dustin Ingram and Samuel Davis. All of which give very good performances as the five friends looking for a little rest and relaxation. Randy Schulman also gives a worthy performance as the first person infected as the film opens. Another good performance belongs to Louise Linton who plays Deputy Winston. Everyone will take notice because the deputy in the original film was a man, but Linton does a great job and she is very easy on the eyes as well.

Another good thing about the film is the gore and effects, both are very well done. The god things I liked about the film end there. The gore and effects were good but the film lacked any really good kills, sure once it gets to the action thing’s move at a fast pace but I felt it was missing some gruesome kills that would have put it over the top and it would of made up for some of the film's other weaknesses. The film also lacked the suspense and tension the original film had and it didn't have much atmosphere either.

I wanted to like this "Cabin Fever" but in the end it was a shadow of its former self. I am not going to tell you to not go see the film because everyone likes their own things so I am sure some out there will enjoy it more than I did but I will say keep your expectations low. "Cabin Fever" is in Theaters and on VOD now. You can get more information by visiting its Official Site HERE. It is not the worst horror film or remake I have seen but it definitely fell way short.
