It’s Friday and Shannon’s parents are away for the weekend, the perfect time to have a party. The music’s blasting, the drinks are flowing, but suddenly the party comes to a crashing halt when Kim,Shannon’s friend, accuses a boy of rape. Without knowing the guilt or innocence of the boy, the group extracts vengeance and accidentally kills him. A situation that was totally unthinkable a few hours earlier is now their reality. They blame each other in a wild attempt to justify what they have done. With seemingly no other option, they hide their crime, only to face a shock that leads them down a more sinister path.
"Complicity" tells the story of a group of friends who decide to have a party while one girl's parents are away. What starts off as a perfect night quickly goes badly when one girl accuses a misfit of raping her. With the booze flowing freely things escalate rather quickly as one friend decides to attack the guy without finding out the facts first. Things go from bad to worse when the guy is killed, now the group must decide what to do. Call the police or find a place to hide the body and get everyone on the same page as to what never happened that night.
The film is not an easy one to talk about without causing spoilers which are something i never like to do so I am not going to go into any more details about what happens, what is already written above is enough to know before seeing the film for yourself. What I can tell you is that the film is very well done. One of the first things I noticed was the acting, everyone in the film did a great job playing their characters in a realistic and believable way. Some of that must be credited to Writer/Director, CB Harding who not only wrote a terrific story but his direction was awesome as well. The film really builds on tension and suspense and it has you right at the edge of your seat, waiting and wanting to know more. The film won several awards at the 2013 Boston International Film Festival including Best Screenplay and Cinematography. Both are well deserved awards that you will agree with once you see the film.
"Complicity is a thriller that entertains with all that is going on but it also raises a few questions as well like doing the right thing even if it means trouble. The film does a great job at quickly introducing the cast and allowing us to gain some kind of feelings towards them because the crime happens. It also has several nice twists a long the way as well. If you like a good thriller then I highly recommend checking this one out. There are plenty of things to like about the film including its marvelous cast which includes veteran Sean Young to its story that gets the blood flowing with its high levels of suspense.
