In a dark and decadent city, Sean Fallon - a corrupt cop - will have to face his own demons to put an end to a series of brutal rapes and murders of the most weirdest kind. With the help of the local pimps, headed by Chance, Fallon will go the hunt for the serial killer, that may in the end not be human!
Right from the start you can see the budget was going to get in the way but for being done for a reported 500,000 you would think everyone would understand what they were getting before even watching it. The film's production values are as expected here and believe me when I tell you I have seen worse. The acting is average at best with some of the non-lead performances being a little weak but for the most part everyone did a good enough playing playing out their characters. The stand-out as far as performances go is Lance Henriksen who plays a wheelchair bound pimp, he first appears in the film at around 21 minutes in but it is brief, after that you get to see much more of him around the 45 minute mark to the end which did take the film up another level for me. The one thing the film has going for it is that the story is some what original or it at least hasn't been beaten to death to over the years, it also flows well and it keeps you interested. There is also some nudity, gore and the effects were not bad either considering. The action scenes could of been a bit better at the end but the finale was still entertaining. With a bigger budget and maybe a bit more sleaze added to compliment the story "Dying God" could of been a much better movie but I felt it was watchable and enjoyed seeing Henriksen again. If you're looking for a horror film with big production values I suggest passing on this one but if you enjoy these low-budget efforts then I recommend at least a look at it. The story is pretty straight forward which is why I decided to leave out any details and not ruin perhaps the best part of the whole production which is the story. Like any and all films you have to judge each one separately and as far as Independent horror goes I think this one falls a little short of average but that doesn't mean I didn't enjoy it while I was watching it, in fact I think it rose above some of it's flaws through story and cast, either way it is a film I think true horror buffs might enjoy.
"Dying God" is Fabrice Lambot's first feature film so with taken into consideration I felt he did a great job with what he had to work with and I hope someone gives him more of a budget next time around to work with.
