Drawing on Eric Schlosser's Fast Food Nation and Michael Pollan's The Omnivore's Dilemma, director Robert Kenner's documentary explores the food industry's detrimental effects on our health and environment. Kenner spotlights the men and women who are working to reform an industry rife with monopolies, questionable interpretations of laws and subsidies, political ties and rising rates of E. coli outbreaks.
Food, Inc. shows how in the last fifty years the US agriculture industry has come to control the nation's food supply for maximum profits through genetically modified organisms, genetically modified organisms, political legislation, exploited labor, and legal threats. It makes you wonder how any Government could control such a thing as our food and only worry about the high end profits and not what the people are eating. I have to be honest I am afraid to buy ground meat ever again after watching this film. I can't even say this was entertaining, I did find it interesting and informative but I also found to to be very disturbing. Food Inc. is certainly a film that will open your eyes to what is going on, one part I found interesting was a segment on why such things as cereal and snacks like potato chips cost less than a bag of carrots does. Plus the way they control the farmers is down right wrong. This documentary might seem one-sided but I am sure the corporate big shots had a chance to be part of this and tell their side of the story but refused to and that is too bad as the film would of benefited from hearing from the other side but it is no surprise to me that none of the "big wigs" had time to comment. To be honest I am not sure what we as the people can do to get this going on the right path, with corporate big wigs and Washington making big profits from cutting corners and jeopardizing our health I do not see a solution. Like I said before I cannot feel entertained by this but I did feel informed,sad and down right angry over all I seen. I am sure many of you out there are going to enjoy watching this film as well as having an eye-opening experience, it is pretty scary when your Government cannot keep you safe in something as simple as producing our food. It makes you wonder what other things are hidden from the public eye.
