The Place For The Latest Movie Reviews
Not since the classic PUMPING IRON has a film captured all the passion, pain and power behind the world of competitive bodybuilding. Academy AwardŽ nominee Mickey Rourke narrates the illuminating (New York Daily News) and gorgeous (Village Voice) documentary about seven rivals Phil Heath, Kai Greene, Branch Warren, Dennis Wolf, Victor Martinez, Ben Pakulski, Hidetada Yamagishi and Roelly Winklaar as they battle for the title of Mr. Olympia. But beyond the gym, the stage, and the misconceptions about the sport, how far will each of them go to achieve the ultimate in extreme physical perfection?
"Generation Iron" tells the story of seven men who dream of becoming the 2012 Mr. Olympia. All seven men are very different, each has taken their own path to get this far. They all come from a different walks of life, each one also has their own way of training but they all share one thing, they all dream of winning the big prize.
I admit to not following the sport so before I watched this film I could not of told you who the current Mr. O was but after the film was over I found a new respect for all these man who spent their lives getting to where they are along with a lot of blood, sweat and tears as well.
The film spends equal amount of time on each man, letting you get to know them as well as seeing them in training. It also does such a great job of letting the audience get to know these men a bit more personally which makes it very easy for everyone to care about them in one way or another.
It is hard to find anything like this on bodybuilding besides "Pumping Iron" so this is a nice addition for fans of the sport. Like I stated before I do not follow the sport but I was easily engaged in the story and it kept my interested all the way to the end so I recommend this to all sports fans. I think even the more skeptical viewers will enjoy this film if they give it a chance.
"Generation Iron" is available now on DVD, Oscar Nominee, Mickey Rourke does a great job with the narration and the Special Features include:
