When Wes Merritt and his 14-year-old daughter, Natalie, move into a beautiful house that once belonged to the late, cat-loving Mrs. Ashboro, their arrival is marked by a series of bizarre events. The only explanation seems to be that the former occupant's cat, Margaret,who died the same day as her owner is back to haunt the house.
This was originally released as a Television movie under the name "Mrs. Ashboro's Cat" in 2003 and now with a new title, a fresh and attractive cover the DVD is out. The story is about Mrs. Ashboro and her cat, Margaret. Mrs. Ashboro is an aging woman whose nephew, Boyd faces big trouble at work if he doesn't come up with a large amount of cash and quick. His scheme is to sell his Aunt's home right out from under her so he can get the cash he so desperately needs. When Mrs. Ashboro and Margaret both die a day after each other the house is sold to Wes Merrett and his teenage daughter Natalie. But things begin to get a little strange as Natalie begins to see Margaret around the house, it seems that the cat has come back to help set things straight and to protect those who were close to her loving owner. The ghostly cat heroically saves the day when the evil villains try to destroy an animal shelter with a little help from Natalie and her new friends. I wasn't sure what to expect from this film, all I knew is that it was a TV movie and starred Ellen Page before her "Juno" fame. What I got was a highly entertaining supernatural film for the entire family, it reminded me of "Goosebumps" a lot. I was hooked right from the start, the film has a certain charm about it that you just do not see in movies anymore. This is great fun and one the family can sit down to on Halloween and watch together with both the kids and the adults enjoying it. Primarily a children's film, it has all the elements that would make you think of Disney when watching it. I can say this was a refreshing piece of entertainment, with all the horror and teen comedies released nowadays it is nice to see something come out you can sit down with the little ones and enjoy. The cast was terrific, Ellen Page shows in this film she had the acting skills very early and the rest of the cast including, Michael Ontkean,Shirley Knight and Lori Hallier were all amazing as well. I also thought the soundtrack fit the film perfectly. If you have children or just a little kid inside yourself then this is a must own film.
