Virginia (Melissa Sue Anderson) has just survived a tragic accident that's blacked out parts of her memory. But now she's back at school with her popular friends, and she's glad to start over. Days before she turns 18, however, the trauma resurfaces as her friends die off one by one, victims of an as-yet-unknown killer. Virginia begins to wonder whether it's her, but since she can't remember certain moments, she's not quite sure.
This gory slasher/mystery from 1981 features Melissa Sue Anderson of "Little House on The Prairie" fame as one of an elite High School's top ten students. Now available for the first time with the score fans have been begging for. They don't make slasher films like they use to and this is one of the better ones of a all time containing six of the most bizarre murders you will ever see on film. During the 1980's we saw a lot of very bad horror films but this one is certainly one of the better to come during that time, the story can get a little confusing in spots and the ending is as implausible as you are going to find but the creative killings more than make up for any any flaws the film might have. I can on and on about the creative,over-the-top killings in the movie but that would only ruin the fun for those that might never have seen the film or those that have but want to relive the entertaining madness. The cast was excellent here, Melissa Sue Anderson did a fantastic job and legend Glen Ford really brought some star power to the film. Besides the fact that Halloween is right around the corner and you can never have enough horror films to watch around this time of year "Happy Birthday to Me" is a classic 80's horror flick that is 100% entertaining and a must own for any horror buff. Also do not forget that the film finally comes with the haunting orchestral score, as composed by Bo Harwood and Lance Rubin, which was not included on the first DVD release and which fans have been clamoring for. Anchor Bay is the leader in bringing cult and classic horror to the market and they are one of the few studios it seems that listen to what the fans want and deliver.
