Set in Arizona, HURT follows the Coltrane family as they grapple with the untimely death of the father, Robert. Forced to abandon their privileged lifestyle, Helen Coltrane and her teenage children Conrad and Lenore are given shelter by her husband's reclusive brother Darryl in his ramshackle home in the desert. As the family reluctantly settles in, a fresh challenge is presented by the arrival of Sarah (Vassilieva), a lovely yet troubled foster child whom Robert had pledged to take in. The family's grief turns to dread as a series of tragic, inexplicable incidents befall them.

Hurt starts off like just another Drama dealing with a family that has just suffered a loss of their husband and father. Helen Coltrane and her two teenage children have no choice but to move in with her late husband's brother, Darryl until they can get back on their feet again. Everything seems ok at first, there is some tension here and there but that is to be expected moving in with someone as it changes the way everyone involved was use to living out their daily lives. One day just as things were beginning to settle down a little Helen gets a call about a little girl her husband had promised to take out of the foster home she was living in. It seems her mom was killed in a car crash the same way Helen's husband was killed. After going to visit the girl Helen decides to take her in but soon after strange things begin to happen that slowly begins to tear the family apart. The film goes from being a drama to something much more, as it moves along you get to know each character. Some have motives for their actions well others seem like innocent victims but at first it is hard to tell who you can trust and who you can't. The tension and suspense are taken to a higher level after the little girl, Sarah arrives. She seems like a sweet girl at first but after awhile she begins to show her true self and that leads to a frightening finish. The cast is incredible including, Melora Walters ("Big Love") and Jackson Rathbone (Twilight) but the real star here is Sofia Vassilieva who you might know from the hit Television show "Medium" and the movie "My Sister's Keeper" that is in theaters now. This young girl shows talent and maturity way beyond her years. The final act in the film she simply owns, I do not want to go into the details anymore and risk ruining the film for everyone that is waiting to see it but I can say that you get rewarded for sticking this one out. Hurt hits DVD on November 17th so mark this on your calendars and be sure to pick it up. A Tense,Sinister Gothic thriller that slowly brings you to the edge of your seat and doesn't let up till the credits begin to roll. If you enjoy a good psychological thriller that leaves you gasping for breath, waiting to see what happens next then I highly recommend not missing out on Hurt.
