The Place For The Latest Movie Reviews
Cast: Lucas Grabeel (High School Musical), Drew Seeley (High School Musical: The Concert, Another Cinderella Story), Adrian Slade, Chris Coppola(Beowulf, The Polar Express), Mekia Cox (Crazy, Stupid, Love), Amy Paffrath (Dinner at Eight)
Haunted by bizarre dreams about Goth rocker Trey Sylvania (DREW SEELEY), and experiencing a growing lust for blood, Dylan (LUCAS GRABEEL), a not-so-average teenager finds himself transforming into a vampire! It all started when he was bitten by a voracious fanged exchange student, and it's a process he is desperate to stop - but how? His demented dentist can't do anything about Dylan's aching teeth and emerging fangs, and the anti-bloodsucking pills he gets from his para-psychologist just give him a rash. Dylan is terrified and he doesn't know what to do - especially about his beautiful girlfriend Sara (ADRIAN SLADE).
"Twilight meets High School Musical" is the best way of describing "I Kissed a Vampire" from Monterey Media. The film opens theatrically March 30th and there's already a build in audience for a musical such as this. The story is pretty simple so there's not much more I can tell you about plot wise that isn't already written above but it's a nice story and it moves along at a good pace by mixing some very funny moments with catchy music and dance numbers and even a small dose of drama but never enough to drag the film down.
If you're familiar with The High School Musical films then you already now two of the film's actors, Lucas Grabeel (High School Musical) and Drew Seeley (High School Musical: The Concert, Another Cinderella Story) both of whom do a terrific job playing their roles here. Also worth mentioning is Adrian Slade in her feature film debut as the girlfriend Sara, I was very impressed with Adrian considering this is her first film and I look forward to seeing more of her in the future.
The film does have a bit of drama in it like I already mentioned but it never takes itself 100% serious which is a good thing here, the cast looked like they had a great time making the film and it translates back to the audience. The humor is very funny, I found myself laughing out loud a number of times during the movie and even the little bit of special effects they use are very well done. The target audience here is going to be teens and those in their early 20's but I myself really enjoyed it as well.
"I Kissed a Vampire" is a lively, fun film with some great laughs and catchy songs you will find yourself singing long after it's over. I enjoyed the film more than I thought I would, if you're a fan of rock musicals then you will enjoy this. Every movie has to be judged separately and for what it brings to the table and this one succeeds on all levels and is a highly entertaining film.
You can find out where the film will be playing at Monterey Media's web site HERE.
