A nerdy valedictorian proclaims his love for the hottest and most popular girl in school – Beth Cooper – during his graduation speech. Much to his surprise, Beth shows up at his door that very night and decides to show him the best night of his life.
Beth Cooper is a comedy that did not fair well during it's theatrical run but after watching it I found out that it was much better than I expected it to be. Now I am not saying this will go down as a classic comedy but I do think it had enough original ideas to separate it from all the other Teen movies that have come out recently. Director, Chris Columbus kept the film moving at a brisk pace and he did a good job at keeping it sweet and very funny at times. It seems like the cast had a great time making this film and it translate back to the audience, there is nothing here to really think about it is just a fun little comedy that never once takes itself serious. The cast is a big part of why this wasn't as bad as it could of been, Denis Cooverman and Hayden Panettiere are both very good as the film's leads and the supporting cast is just as impressive. The opening speech, which is very funny, sets the tone for the rest of the story. You can't expect a lot from a film about a nerdy high school boy trying to get the hottest cheerleader, it has been done before over and over but like I said before this one brings some new ideas and the humor is funny without being overly offensive. You know what your getting from a comedy like this so just don't expect too much from it and you will surely enjoy it as much as I did. I got an 80's vibe from this which I also thought was very cool, in the end I had a good time watching this movie with my daughter who also enjoyed it more than she thought she would. Ignore the negative reviews on this and pick it up then decide for yourself but I think most fan's of the genre are going to be pleasantly surprised by this one.
