After prostitute Linda (Kristin Chenoweth) confesses she's going to kill herself on her birthday, jaded priest John Buerlein (Jeremy Sisto) becomes obsessed with saving the mysterious beauty. As he searches for her, he finds himself drawn into the seamy underbelly of the city. His quest has him haunting strip clubs and brothels, while he faces the doubts of his congregation and his mentor.
There has been others but this is one example not only how important Independent cinema is but just how great it can be as well, a story with a dark subject matter that is sprinkled with touches of humor making this one of the most enjoyable dramas I have seen in some time. There is so much to like here, Jeremy Sisto gives a fantastic performance as John Buerlein, a local Priest who is told by a hooker in the confessional that she is going to kill herself on her upcoming birthday. He then takes it to a personal level as he goes against everything in his rule book to try and find the woman and some how try and stop her. The acting takes an already captive story to another level, Sisto and Kristin Chenoweth as the prostitute Linda are a joy to watch and make their characters so believable you feel like your a part of the story. You can feel the compassion coming off the screen and the little hints of humor help keep the film from becoming too depressing and heavy and it also helps create a nice pace to it all. Jeremy Sisto is one of the finest actors around, it is too bad we don't see him in more films but he really brings his role as the Priest to life. This is not a film you want to talk about too much and ruin it for those that were not lucky enough to find a cinema that was playing it but I can say that it is a wonderful mix of compassion and humor, one scene that stuck with me was when Linda went to visit her dying step father and confronts him about raping her when she was just a little girl, a truly powerful scene among many that were in the film. If your looking for some brainless popcorn flick look elsewhere but if you want a something fresh that is captivating and at times funny then I cannot suggest picking this movie up enough. Just when you start losing faith in the whole film industry a cinematic gem like this pops up and you once again believe. I would like to give thanks to everyone involved in making this gem including Writer/Director, Patrick Coyle and the entire cast, this a film worth being proud of.
