After participating in a series of seemingly safe drug testing experiments, grad student Lenore endures some horrifying side effects when her new baby turns out to be a natural born killer, leaving a trail of dead in its tiny wake. As the death toll mounts, the doting mom can stay in denial for only so long.

Many out there might remember the original from the 70's which went on to spawn two sequels. Cheesy as it was I thought it was a fun film for it's time so when I found out they had a remake out I was kind of excited to see just how they updated the story and how they would deal with the baby effects. The basic story is about a young woman, Lenore who becomes pregnant while in graduate school. She decides to leave and focus on the birth of her baby but things are not right when she is rushed to the hospital after having pains. Only six months pregnant the doctor the baby's father that the baby has grown and they must deliver it c-section. Once the baby is born it begins to kill everyone in it's path. This is not a direct remake of the original film but played straight I found it to be very effective. The film is not what I would call scary, there are a few scenes here and there that might make you jump but it is more a gore fest than anything else. One might wonder how a baby can turn into a monster like this, the film does give an explanation but I will not tell it to you here. The baby effects this time around are CGI and it works for a film like this where you have to suspend belief to begin with. A lot of the killings are done off screen, I suppose the budget wasn't there for the effects but you do get to see the baby mainly towards the end. The cast I thought was very good, Bijou Phillips and James Murray both did a great job playing the couple and rest of the supporting cast did a fine job as well. The original film will always have a place in my heart for being pure fun but this remake does a fine job in recreating some of that feel while managing to be updated enough to stand on it's own. If you like horror I recommend giving this one a shot, it has enough twists and thrills along with plenty of blood to please any fan.
