Two young women go on a Mediterranean vacation and uncover the watery lair of a killer mermaid hidden beneath an abandoned military fortress.

"Killer Mermaid" tells the story of Two American girls who travel to Montenegro on vacation to visit an ex-lover and old friend. While there they notice a remote island that use to house Mamula, an abandoned military fortress. They decide they want to visit the place even thought one friend tells them it is not safe anymore and a stranger tells them that the place is drenched in blood from horrible things that were done there in the past. After the five friends arrive on the island it does not take long for them to realize they are not alone and their lives are in grave danger. But what they do not know is that there is something there even deadlier than the man and his rifle.

I have to admit I was skeptical about this film when I first heard about because it sounded a lot like a SYFY Channel movie it but after watching the trailer my excitement grew a bit more towards it. The plot itself is pretty simple but the story holds a few secrets that do not get revealed until later in the film so I am not going to sit here and spoil the fun for those of you waiting to see it.

I really enjoyed this one, the film is fantastic to look at, the run down island is the perfect setting because it provides just the right amount of mystery and atmosphere for the proceedings. I do not recall seeing any films about a mermaid that kills so that alone is an original idea so props to Writer/Director, Milan Todorovic and Co-writer, Marko Backovic, Barry Keating(screenplay) and Milan Konjevic(screenplay) for coming up with something new and fresh. Acting wise the entire cast did a great job including the amazing Franco Nero, Kristina Klebe, Natalie Burn and Dragan Micanvic.

The film itself starts off a little slow as it sets up the story and introduces us to the characters before the Mermaid is revealed but what a beauty she is. This siren is as gorgeous as she is deadly and her call is simply irresistible. Disney has nothing on this Mermaid, the film has it all, good looking ladies, a few laughs, adventure and terror. I enjoyed every second of it and I did not want it to end. If I had one complaint about the film it would be that the film needed to have more of the mermaid in it but over-all that is a minor complaint because there is a lot more happened than you might expect. The film had an amazing festival run and for good reason so do not miss it.

“Killer Mermaid” comes to DVD on September 9th with an exclusive window on XBOX on August 26th so be sure to check it out. You can order the DVD HERE.

If you enjoy creature features then I highly recommend diving into "Killer Mermaid."
