Perpetually unlucky in love, June (Cameron Diaz) becomes intrigued by a mysterious man (Tom Cruise), who unexpectedly drags her into a whirlwind adventure involving devious enemies, life-threatening confrontations and a major discovery that may alter the future of humankind.
I was curious to see this new action film simply because it seemed to get a bad rap even before it opened in theaters for some reason. There was another action film out around the same time called "Killers" which I was disappointed in so I was looking forward to checking this one out and I can say after watching it that it was much better than I expected and I have to question why the film got so much negative press. If you're looking for something original here I suggest you keep looking, this is a popcorn action/comedy that delivers on the action, special effects and comedy but it does borrow elements from other films like it. The action at times is over-the-top, parts of the film reminded be of "Wanted" with it's unrealistic action scenes but they are fun to watch none the less. I am not the biggest Tom Cruise fan but he he excellent here and so is Cameron Diaz, both have great chemistry together and they generate a ton of laughs along the way.
Director, James Mangold does a great job at keeping the film lively and mixing the comedy with the action scenes perfectly. "Knight and Day" is a film that isn't going to win any major awards but it wasn't made to win awards, as far as summer films go this was not only a surprise gem to me but it is one of the best action films of the year. It is a shame the film never seemed to have a chance but the good news is it is now available on DVD and Blu-ray so those of you that might of decided not to go to theaters to see it can now, I think after watching it you will find it to be as entertaining a film as I did.
