Best-selling author Wes Wilson has it all. But when menacing smuggler Isaac coolly insists that he take a chauffeured backseat ride, Wilson's charmed life explodes into a world of violence, espionage and stolen diamonds. As lies and illusions give way to a harsh reality, Wilson learns shocking truths about two women in his life.

Christian Slater stars as author Wes Wilson, his best selling book is about how to keep a relationship alive by being honest. What he doesn't know is that his girlfriend is living a double life and she also has a few other secrets she is keeping from him. When they are attacked while going to their car she is taken away and after time passes he can only believe that she is dead. But what Wes doesn't know is his life is about to get even crazier. I was looking forward to seeing this one, an action/thriller with Cuba Gooding Jr. who I like and who has been in some very good straight to video movies in the last few years. The film also stars Christian Slater who is also a very good actor so with these two in a film together I figured it at least had to be entertaining. As far as the story goes it seemed straight forward at first and looked as if it might of been action packed. It was both of those but the film also has some humor in it which was something I never expected, it doesn't really take itself serious and it seems the film-makers just decided to go out and have a good time making an entertaining movie and for the most part that is what the finished product ends up being. I would of liked to have seen the film played out seriously but I still had fun with it and it packs enough action to keep you interested till the very end. There are also some very nice twists and turns along the way, most of the film I found to be predictable but at least the twists kept the film from becoming boring. Sarah Ann Schultz and Christa Campbell are also very good in supporting roles in the film and both play important characters to the story. Cuba is excellent as the ruthless Isaac and Christian is charming and funny in many parts of the film. Advertised as a action/thriller, Lies and Illusions always has plenty of comedy to keep things light which should be appealing to many viewers out there. I thought this was an action flick along the lines of "Charlies Angels" with the over the top action scenes and humor tossed in. In the end I found this to be very enjoyable and recommend it to any fan of action and comedy, a fast paced film that delivers on fun which in turns makes for some good brainless entertainment.
