Set during China s war period, Little Big Soldier is the story of a soldier (Jackie Chan) and a general (Wang Leehom) who come from opposing states and also have very much opposing views on the war and the world. Jackie Chan in one of his finest performances plays a soldier from Liang, who ultimately survives the war by playing dead. Lee Hom Wang plays a general from Wei, who is wounded fighting for his country. A painful yet comical journey commences when the soldier decides to kidnap the general and bring him back to his state in the high hopes of collecting a reward. When the unlikely duo is confronted by danger, they quickly learn that they must join forces in order to survive!
"Little Big Soldier" is a Chinese/Hong Kong action adventure film starring Jackie Chan. The story is set in the last days of China's Warring States Period, just before the Qin Dynasty's first unification of the country in 221 BC. Jackie Chan plays an old "Soldier" of Liang State, who, fakes his death in the battlefield, captures a young, injured "General" of Wei State. All the older soldier wants is to stay alive and make it back to his homeland and in return get rewarded for bringing in the enemy but between the Wei troops looking for the General and the tribal warriors living in the mountains things are not going to be that easy unless these two enemies join forces and fight as one, that's if the kill each other before then.
Jackie Chan not only is one of the film's stars but he also co-produced the film and he also wrote the screen play as well so he wears a few different hats here. The film has the trademark Chan comedy in it but for the most part it keeps a more serious tone. Filled with exciting action and adventure but it's the film's two leads, Jackie Chan and Leehom Wang who make the film what it is. They have great chemistry together and play off each other with perfection in a comedic and dramatic way.
Jackie Chan has always been the Asian master of physical comedy and it's on full display here, this is possibly his best film in years and it mixes the humor with a multi-layered story that captivates the viewer. The cinematography and music in the film are also top-notch making the surroundings another character all on it's own. So if you like Chan and who doesn't, martial arts or just action/adventure in general then I highly recommend picking this one up. "Little Big Soldier" delivers on every level, this is an exciting martial arts adventure that is sure to please all fans.
