The Place For The Latest Movie Reviews
Cast: Tara Nichol Caldwell, Joshua Malekos
Inspired by true events, Lyvia's House follows young journalist Tara, who recently moved with her new lover into the former home of infamous Italian artist, Lyvia, who mysteriously vanished months earlier. The locals talk of the lovely, reclusive Lyvia, but are dismissive when pressed. Tara soon begins to wonder if Lyvia’s disappearance is somehow connected to murders that took place in the area twenty years earlier.
As Tara begins investigating the mystery surrounding Lyvia, she starts seeing and hearing things that seem more and more irrational, and begins to doubt her own sanity. But is she truly experiencing a dissolving sense of reality, or is she simply unaware of an all too real threat following close behind, one with an even darker purpose than she could have imagined?
Lyvia's House, is a mystery/thriller inspired by the real-life murders committed in northern California by Juan Corona in 1971. This is director Niko Volonakis feature film directorial debut. The film gets your attention right from the start, and the mystery continues to thicken all the way up until the final act, when secrets begin to be revealed and twists happen one after the other until the film's final scene. You will be on the edge of your seat during the last half hour.
The cast did a great job playing their characters, including, Tara Nichol Caldwell and Joshua Malekos as the films main characters. The director keeps you guessing the entire time because there are a number of different suspects to keep the audience entertained.
If I had one complaint, it would be that the film runs a little long and could have used a little trimming. Besides that, 'Lyvia's House' is a solid thriller with lots of mystery, atmosphere, and suspense. That, along with the many twists, this one might just leave you thinking about it long after it is over, and you might have to pick your jaw up off the floor. Stonecutter Media will release the film on all VOD platforms beginning October 1. Don't miss out on seeing this little gem.
