Cast: Daria Panchenko, William Prociuk, Magui Bravi, Sofía Gala Castiglione, Malena Sánchez, Juan Palomino, Gabriel Grieco
After an accident and a major transformation, an adult film star seeks revenge for all the abuse she suffered. Maria is the hottest porn star in the underground industry until an accident sends her to the hospital and shortly after that her body disappears. But is isn't long before Maria is back on set but it doesn't last long because she dies on set. It doesn't take long for those in charge to offer the co-stars hush money and to make a phone call to someone that has some men who are pretty sick in the head when it comes to dead bodies. But their joy doesn't last long because Maria is again back and isn't the woman she once was. Instead she is some sort of robot hell bent on killing those responsible for abusing her.
'MAR.IA' is a Spanish sleazy gore fest set in the neon lights of the underground porn industry. The film is obviously dubbed, and you can easily tell it was done on a small budget, but if you like twisted content and extreme gore, then this is going to be for you.
The film has a simple plot and no real character development, and it also has a run time of an hour and 20 minutes so it gets to the point and delivers without over staying its welcome. Directors Gabriel Grieco and Nicanor Loreti deliver some very disturbing moments as far as the porn content goes, and they also deliver on the action, killings and gore, which is what the film is all about. I wasn't sure what to make of the film at first, but it got much better and a lot more entertaining as it moved along.
I have not seen a film that pushes the boundaries this much before and I isn't going to be for everyone, but if it sounds like something you might like then be sure to check out this Horror/Sci-Fi/Thriller when it comes to Digital on October 14, 2025. The film played at many festivals and won plenty of awards, including:
Sitges 2023 – Nominee, Blood Window Award
FrightFest UK 2023 – Official Selection
Trieste Sci-Fi Film Festival, Italy 2023 – Official Selection
Buenos Aires Rojo Sangre – Winner, Best Picture 2023 Obscura, Berlin, Germany 2023 – Official Selection
Blood Window, Ventana Sur – Winner, Best WIP
Cinefantasy, São Paulo – Winner, Best Director 2023
Trujillo Festival Descubierto, Peru – Winner, Best Director, Best Editing, Special Mention Best Film 2024
Festival ETREUM, Argentina – Winner, Best Actress 2024
Feratum Fest, Mexico – Official Selection
Noctámbulo, Spain – Winner, Best ActressFestival Saladillo, Argentina 2024 – Official Selection
The film also acts as a social commentary on the treatment of women in society. It also doesn't end when the credits begin, so stick around for more scenes within. I am not sure if I liked the film more than I should have, but I will have it is a disturbing and violent film that I enjoyed and recommend.
