Megan Stewart, 14, and her best friend Amy Herman, 13, though opposites in personality, are best friends. Megan carries the front of being the most popular girl in school, but this masks a lifestyle of hard partying, drugs, alcohol and indiscriminate sex. Amy, unpopular and socially awkward, clings to her relationship with Megan as a lifeline to social acceptance. Together, these two young girls forge a deep friendship based on their mutual needs. The two girls regularly communicate by web chat cameras or cell phone, and even meet boys online. As Megan seeks friends who are different from her usual posse of hanger-ons, she is introduced by a friend online to a 17 year-old boy named Josh in a chat room. Megan and Josh bond quickly, leaving Amy feeling a bit left out. One day, Megan goes to meet Josh in person, and she is never seen again. Amy launches into a concentrated effort to find her friend.
Writer/Director, Michael Goi based the "Megan is Missing" on real cases, the film is not an easy film to watch and it's made for adults and older teens because the the actions and language the girls use in the movie but it still works as a teaching tool on how to be safe from online predators. If I had to pick one down side to the film it would be that it portrays every girl in the film as using drugs, drinking and using foul language, I am sure there are many young girls that act that one for one reason or another but I am also sure there's a lot of girls that have ended up in the same horrible position like the girls in this film and never acted that way. Like I said before "Megan is Missing" is a not an easy film to watch nor is it really entertaining but the whole point of the story is to bring attention to the problem and to hopefully teach parents and kids how to protect themselves so not to end up in the hands of one of these monsters. The last 20 minutes of the film are very hard to watch so be warned but I think it was important to get the film's point across. I read the film was made in just 8 days which is pretty impressive, the technical side of the film is very good and the young cast does a terrific job playing their roles. I give credit to Director, Goi for bringing to light this major problem and hopefully by doing so he will help save some lives.

I do believe the film could of been a little more realistic had they cut back a little on making all the girls look like they were always getting into some kind of trouble at least early on. Still I have to give the film high praise for it's strong message and I hope it some how makes a difference.
