Former pop princess Tiffany co-stars in this nerve-wracking thriller about gigantic, mutant piranhas who are irradiated in the Amazon River by well-meaning scientists in a misguided attempt to revive the local piranha population. After the fish destroy a tourist boat and the militia bent on stopping them, they escape from their enclosure and begin swimming to Florida. Along the way, they grow even larger and more threatening. Can they be stopped?

What The Asylum did here was take their last internet sensation and ramped it up a few more notches and the final product is Mega Piranha, a film that takes the formula from the previous film I mentioned and they have have given it the ultimate cheesy goodness only they can deliver. The story is pretty straight forward, when an American diplomat is attacked in South America the first thought is that it was an act of terrorism but what they don't know is what awaits them is something they could of never imagined...mutant piranha who are hermaphroditic, reproduce on their own, never sleep, have super hard flesh and have extra organs. So how can you stop such an enemy? well I guess if you didn't catch this film on the SyFy channel you can always pick it up on DVD this week and find out. The Asylum is known for turning heads with their films that gimmick whatever is big in theaters at the time but they have also made some very good B-titles as well and Mega Piranha is possibly the best schlock-fest I have seen in some time, I could not get enough of it's "B" goodness. Plus Like with "Mega Shark Versus Giant Octopus" they have taken the opportunity to bring back another Pop star from the eighties, this time it is Tiffany, if you think that is cool it doesn't stop there. The film also stars Barry Williams, yep from the "Brady Bunch" now isn't that just the most awesome thing ever!!?? I know this sounds great and all but the real stars of this one are the killer piranha themselves, these monsters eat their way down stream and there is plenty of carnage along the way, plus they seem to enjoy just jumping out of the water and crashing into buildings, funny yes, unbelievable yes, super fun too watch and one hell of a good time...YES!!!! If you are a B-movie fan then you cannot miss seeing this, I laughed all the way through the film and just had the time of my life watching this one. I can't wait to see what The Asylum has in store next for us but in the meantime I think I will grab my favorite soda, some popcorn and watch this one several more times. The DVD comes with Special Features that include the trailer; audio commentary and making-of featurette.
