A shy, inconspicuous man named Maco (Marko Zaror) decides to become a self-made superhero when he gains national notoriety for unintentionally rescuing a television reporter from the clutches of two dangerous criminals.

Writer/Director, Ernesto Díaz Espinoza's last film, "Kiltro" quickly gained a cult following of sorts after it was released on DVD in the U.S. now he returns with his new film "Mirageman" and once again he got Actor Marko Zaror as the lead actor. Created in Chile and done on a very low budget Mirageman some how pulls off being a highly entertaining super hero flick. You are not going to find amazing special effects here or unbelievable fight scenes with people attached to wires performing impossible feats. Maco's parents were killed and his brother was brutally attacked and now spends his days in an asylum. One night Maco saves a television reporter from a man attacking her, later when the female reporter does a story on her masked hero his brother's mental health seems to improve so Maco decides to again wear the mask as Mirageman. There is a lot to like here, for starters the fight scenes are brutal but so well done and without the use of slow motion or other gimmicks that it feels so real you can almost feel the punches yourself. Any fan of action will love this one because it is jam-packed with it from start to finish. But the film also has other elements that separate it from your everyday super hero flick, for one the film has some humor mixed in which keeps it light and entertaining, secondly the film deals with some issues like the how someone can be easily exploited by the media and also it shows you the price that has to be paid to become famous. As far as a super hero movie goes this certainly has the trade marks, you got the masked hero, the over-the-top villains and even the love interest is here as well but the one difference the separates this one from all the rest is the fact that it is played out in a way that feels believably real. If your looking for a big-budget film here with amazing special effects look elsewhere but I do recommend this to anyone that is looking for something different because Mirageman is that, it is also funny, brutal and inspiring. I got to say the film could not have had a better ending, it wraps up the film perfectly and finishes off what ends up being an engaging and highly entertaining flick. The DVD comes with the original Spanish audio with English subtitles as well as an English dubbed track. The DVD also contains a Behind The Scenes feature as well.
