A security guard (Nick Stahl) working the night shift unwittingly discovers a portal to another dimension and starts having visions of a young woman who was murdered long ago. At first, he assumes what he's seeing is a figment of his own imagination. But when the vengeful girl's spirit begins claiming innocent victims, he's got concrete reasons to fear for his life.
This sequel to the 2008 film is similar in many ways but the filmmakers here brought some new ideas in as well. If you never seen the original film it isn't needed before watching this one because this is a completely different story apart from the last one. Nick Stahl does a terrific job playing Max, who is recovering from a traumatic accident. Since the accident Max keeps seeing visions of a woman and after his dad talks him into taking the job as a night security guard at his company Max begins to see the visions in the mirrors, visions that end up happening shortly after he sees them. Mirrors 2 doesn't have the luxury of a having a A-list cast or lots of money to create a film on the scale the original one was on but I think the film benefited from having the smaller budget in several ways. First off since the film is done just inside the building it helped in creating a more suspenseful environment than the original film and you could feel the tension more in certain scenes. The film is also a lot more gory and bloody than the original and some of the killings are very cool. The cast did a terrific job, Nick Stahl is great as Max and it was sure nice to see William Katt again as his father even if it is in a direct to video movie.
Over-all I found this to be an enjoyable horror flick with some good suspense and enough blood to make every fan of the genre happy. It might lack the star power the first film had but in some ways this was a better film and the cast did a fine job. If you're a fan of horror I recommend giving this a look at, I am sure you will find it as enjoyable as I did. Included with both the Mirrors 2 Blu-ray and DVD release is Into the Mirror, the original Korean film in which the contemporary horror classic is based, about a series of gruesome deaths in a department store all involving mirrors.
