Three are dead. Who is Number four? From Director D.J. Caruso (Disturbia), producer Michael Bay (Transformers) and the Emmy-winning writers of TV's Smallville, comes this gripping, action-packed thriller. John Smith (Alex Pettyfer) is an extraordinary teen masking his true identity to elude a deadly enemy sent to destroy him. Living with his guardian (Timothy Olyphant) in the small town he now calls home, John encounters unexpected life-changing events - his first love (Dianna Agron, TV's Glee), powerful new abilities and a secret connection to the others who share his incredible destiny.

Plot wise the film is pretty simple, maybe too simple but it's basically about Aliens called Loriens have different powers, "legacies" and are being hunted down by the Mogadorians. The Mogs killing the Loriens will also enable them to take over the Earth. John is Number four and the bad guys just killed off Number Three so he is next unless he can learn to use his special powers and quick. Yes, the film is full of cliché after cliché and the characters are really not that interesting so it's hard to really care about them one way or the other but right or wrong the film is targeted towards the Teen crowd so I wasn't expected much in the way of story or character development. A sci-fi action film and it has plenty of both plus some comedy as well to lighten the mood. The film has a fast pace starting from it's opening scene, it gets right to the story and the pace doesn't let up till the very end. The action scenes are very well done and entertaining and the special effects were great as well.

"I am Number Four" isn't a perfect film and it does have it's flaws but like I already stated it is made with a much younger crowd in mind and if you look at it that way it does a good job but there's also enough action and effects to keep the older movie-goers entertained as well. The cast did a good job considering what the had to work with here and the production was what you would expect from a Michael Bay film. If you're looking for some sophisticated sci-fi here look elsewhere but if you want some light entertainment this is a good popcorn to fill that need.
