After returning home, a former scuba diver tries to cope with his wife's untimely death, while experiencing otherworldly incidents.
"Of Silence" is about a man, Colby who is attempting to comes to terms with his wife's recent murder. To make matters worse the bills are piling up and even his family can't seem to get him out of his silence. Shortly after returning to the couples home Colby begins hearing strange sounds and seeing things, among those that he sees is his wife. Over the next several days the visions become much more disturbing and the sounds much more frequent and it seems as though Colby is slowly slipping into a state of madness and even his medication isn't helping.
You are immediately taken in by the character of Colby, you not only feel compassion for him but you're placed right inside his head with him as you slowly watch his tortured mind get worse and worse. The film is a mix of genres which includes, drama, sci-fi, thriller and even a bit of horror. The film was shot on Super 35mm in 12 days on a $125,000 budget but you would never be able to tell. There's just one location used that being Colby's home but everything from the camera work to the lighting are extremely well done. Using the home and it's hallways and empty rooms makes it perfect for creating the right atmosphere needed. I really hate to classify the film into any one genre but if I have to I would say this is a thinking man's horror film. The answers to certain questions you are sure to have are simply not given so it's up to the viewer to make up his or her own mind when the credits begin to roll, but I was fine with that because it makes you think about the film long after it's over as well as making for good conversation among friends and family as well.
The cast all did a terrific job, there's not a weak link in the film but the star here is no other than Writer/Director, Jeremiah Sayys who stars as Colby. Jeremiah is as gifted an actor as he is a film-maker. I have to say "Of Silence" is a tough film to talk about because it's one of those movies that is better seen rather than being told about. It's engaging, thought-provoking and at times down right frightening. Anyone that loves Independent cinema is sure to have a great time watching this little gem. I believe Jeremiah Sayys has a bright future ahead of him in film making and I look forward to his future projects but for right now I highly recommend checking this one out. "Of Silence" gets under your skin and in your head and it doesn't leave till long after the film is over. That is a sign of an effective bit of cinema and I give everyone involved high marks for creating a film that had me on the edge of my seat the entire time.
