Jackie Powers (Scott Caan) is a nice guy but a lousy hit man, and when he’s sent to take out a crafty debtor (J.K. Simmons), Jackie only pisses him off. Fleeing the scene, Jackie takes bored waitress Lola as a hostage. When Jackie reveals he needs money to get his son out of jail, Lola cooks up a scheme for them to get cash from her dying mother (Virginia Madsen). Meanwhile, a thug sent to kill him is sleeping with Jackie’s ex. Also starring Frank Grillo, this crime-comedy is a witty homage to Tarantino and the Coen brothers.

'One Day as a Lion' tells the the story od a hit man wanna named Jackie who took on the job so that he can get a lawyer for his son who is accused of kidnapping. While failing to kill the target and instead killing the owner of a diner he takes a waitress Lola with him. Meanwhile the crime bass has been a hit out on Jackie so he will want to stay on the run while trying to get up the cash to help his son.

'One Day as a Lion' Plays out like a crime/comedy the Coen Brothers might produce but not exactly on that level. Still this little film has several things going for it including a great cast including, Taryn Manning, George Carroll, Virginia Madsen, J.K. Simmons, Scott Caan, Frank Grillo and Marianne Rendón. Scott Caan wrote the film and John Swab directed. The two main characters are played by Caan and Rendón as Jackie and Lola and both are excellent in the film. Marianne Rendón needs to be in more movies as she is a real delight to watch.

As far as the film being compared to a "Coen" film I would not go there but I will say I really enjoyed this little crime/comedy more than I thought I would because of its cast, its characters and its sense of humor what had me laughing several times during the movie.

I think this might do really well on home video once people see it and start telling their friends and family about it. 'One Day as a Lion' will be on DVD May 15th and will include the Special Features: Deleted Scene

Trailer. If you are looking for something a bit different or a little off the wall then this is your film so check it out.
