Eccentric performer and romantic skeptic Charlyne Yi embarks on a quest to learn the true nature of love -- and gathers some surprising findings when she begins a relationship with actor Michael Cera. Real-life sweethearts Yi and Cera star as themselves in this quirky hybrid of documentary and scripted comedy.
The one thing this film does so well is it does a great job blurring the line of being a documentary or a drama. The story follows Yi around the country looking for the answer to "Is love possible?". In her quest she finds some interesting answers, some practical and some a bit off the wall but she also finds someone as well in Michael Cera. After meeting him the film switches from asking the questions to others to Yi and Cera and from there it becomes a charming,funny and thought provoking as she begins to ask herself the same questions. Paper Heart has a lot going for it, besides being one of the most original romantic comedies I have seen in some time it also has two great young actors in Michael Cera and Charlyne Yi, this girl is so cute and sweet and she packs suck a terrific personality that I can't see how anyone would not want to be around her. I can't say this will be for everyone but for those that enjoy a good Indie with heart then I suggest giving this one a shot. I wasn't expecting much from this film but I got to say I found it to be one of most entertaining and clever films in the genre in some time. The scenes with real people telling their stories of how they fell in love is inspirational and the relationship that Yi and Cera attempt to build seems real to the point where you are hoping for the best for the both of them as they seem to make an amazing couple, again is it a real documentary or just a romance comedy? Who cares really because the film is so enjoyable you get caught up in the story and it's characters from the opening scenes and when it is over you are left with a smile on your face.
