An action-packed horror film that tells the harrowing story of Crimson Matthews, a hardened criminal fresh out of the joint who takes a job as a handyman in a dilapidated house; but the twisted horrors he finds inside are enough to send anyone running. So why does he stay?
As 'Penance Lane' opens it is 5 yrs. prior. A gang finds a a run down empty home on Penance Lane and decides it is a good place to hide out and hide the money the stole. But shortly after they are attacked by something or someone. The only one that escape is Shooter. Fast forward to present day and we see Crimson Matthews an ex-cone heading into town looking for work.
He sees an ad for a handyman at that same old house so he goes up to talk to Father John who owns the home and runs to get it all redone. He hires Crimson for a week but it doesn't take long before Crimson begins to hear and see strange things. So why is he sticking around and who or what is in the house that is attacking people?
Within the first 15 minutes or so you are led to believe that 'Penance Lane' is going to be a supernatural horror film but the true horror that lurks in the town is much more terrifying. The film was directed by Peter Engert and the film was written by Munier Sharrieff. The combo works perfectly. You begin to learn some of the film's secrets early on in the film like why Crimson is not running away after he witnesses the evil inside but it holds on to a few other secrets until later on in the movie.
There is a good bit of action in the beginning then things settle down for a but before the action picks back up and lasts until the credits begin to roll. After the opening sequence the film and some of the characters are not who you thing they are. The n=more the film moves along the more surprised and disturbed you may become.
I really enjoy 'Penance Lane' will be released on VOD April 21, 2020 and I highly recommend checking it out. The film is surprising complex and engaging and there is plenty of action and twists along the way to keep you engaged and glued to the screen the entire time.
