Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief is a fun-filled family film that will appeal to those of you that liked such films as "Harry Potter". The film had amazing CGI effects but what I liked about it was that they were used to enhance the story and not be it or get in the way of it. I thought the characters could of been fleshed out a little more but over-all you get to know them enough to invest in them. The story is simple but it is well told and that combined with the brisk pace of the film you never have time to get bored. The cast were all terrific here, Logan Lerman was perfect as Percy, the boy that knows he is different but has no clue who he really is and Brandon T. Jackson who plays Percy's "Protector", Grover, steals many of the scenes he is in in his role as a Satyr (half man - half goat). The cast also features some talented Hollywood veterans like Uma Thurman and Pierce Brosnan which certainly brings star power to the film. Domestically the film was not able to bring in enough to cover the budget so I guess we will have to see if more films are made but I hope they continue on with the story. The film contains some adult contain, nothing too bad but kids under the age of 11 might find parts of the movie to be frightening. I had a good time watching this and even went back for a second viewing as well, if you like this kind of adventure/fantasy then I highly recommend picking it up today. The film is available on Blu-ray and DVD and both contain special features that include:

There is certainly room for improvement here but for a first film I thought the film-makers did a good job at setting up the characters while keeping the audience entertained.
