After running away from and then being recaptured by her strict father, Ponyo -- with some help from Sosuke -- becomes more determined than ever to make her dreams come true. But will her wishes throw the entire earth off balance?

Famed filmmaker Hayao Miyazaki has create some of the best Japanese anime ever including, My Neighbor Totoro and Princess Mononoke to name a few but with Ponyo he has created a film more for the smaller age group of kids. Not that it is a bad thing but if you are familiar with his other work this one might take you back a step as far as story goes since it is much simpler and aimed toward a much younger crowd than his previous films. The nice thing about Ponyo's G rating is it allows children and adults to share in watching a film together which is something we do not get to do often enough. The wonderful thing about Miyazaki's films is that they look and feel like classic hand-drawn cartoons, now don't get me wrong I love the new CGI and 3D based cinema but nothing compares to watching a film like this and marveling over the work and artistry. The story is simple like I stated before, it is about a little boy who strikes up an unusual friendship with a goldfish princess who desperately wants to become human. The two find it might not be so easy when her strict father comes looking for Ponyo. The American voice-overs are fantastic with such stars as Cate Blanchett, Matt Damon, Tina Fey and Liam Neeson to name only a few lending their talents to help create this magical tale that will have the little ones demanding repeat viewings of. The film is sweet, cute and loads of fun with wonderful characters and vivid colors that almost seem to flow right off the screen. Hayao Miyazaki and Disney have created a romantic children's movie that is perfect for the little ones and for any adult who still loves a classic tale, this is a must own film.
