Photographer Scott Indermaur creates one-of-a-kind portraits of 11 individuals who have been given the unique challenge of symbolically capturing their beliefs, essence and spirituality in a small box.

His project, REVEALED and THIS I BELIEVE REVEALED have included 160 subjects from around the country. What he finds to be most interesting is the profound effect this project has had on so many of his subjects. Given the opportunity to look within, many experience a journey that takes them much deeper than their initial inner self-examination … which reveals undiscovered truths about themselves.

Scott began working with his subjects on April 7th, 2006 and 5 years later he was at 160 subjects. The whole idea of Revealed is to have normal everyday people take a wooden box and fill it with things that represent their spirituality. For starters this is one of the most unique ideas and films I have ever seen. The trailer is very interesting to say the least but it does nothing to prepare you for the experience that awaits you. All 11 individuals come from different backgrounds and places and have all experienced different things in their lives and to hear them talk about their past and where they are now is very interesting and insightful. To talk about each person here would only ruin the film for those who are waiting to see it but I can tell you this is a film that captivated me from the moment it began.

I got the sense and I would like to believe that each and everyone of the subjects not only connected with themselves by participating but it has also helped them connect with others as well. The film certainly opens your mind and soul, I felt a certain calming sensation while watching the film and it had me thinking about my own spirituality as well and where I am today.

"Revealed: Portraits from Beneath One's Surface" is a fascinating and deeply moving film that is extremely well shot by Director Christian De Rezendes who captures these 11 subjects within the documentary, spending equal time with each subject. The Short's 40 minute run time seems perfect but at the same time I was left wanting more. Indermaur's dream is to take this project to a global level. I sense that even before he began this project he was a spiritual man himself, even though he doesn't come out and say he was before he began. He did a portrait of himself early on but explains his reason for not wanting to do another and I totally agree with it. I would love to see him expand to more countries and I hope if it happens he will decide to film it as well and share it with the world.

If you get the chance to see this film do not hesitate, this is a remarkable project that deserves to be seen. I was touched by all the stories, this is a film that opens your eyes, heart, mind and your soul. There's not many films that can make that claim today. After watching the film I was left thinking about it long after it was over. I don't know what else to say about the film because it's something that needs to seen to fully experience it. The film is set to play at the Massachusetts Independent Film Festival later this month, don't miss the chance to be enlightened by this brilliant documentary.
