'Scurry' Tells the story of a city under siege by a monstrous treat. Mark falls trough a huge hole when the earth opens up. With no hope of getting out he begins to make his way through the dangerous tunnels until he stumbles upon Kate who also was a victim of the earth opening up. But very different people each with regrets must now band together to find a way out but there are other dangers that are lurking in the dark.
'Scurry' is an apocalyptic horror thriller by director, Luke Sparke who has been busy as of late with his recent film, Primitive War. This film was done in a single continuous take, which gives it a unique look and style. The film's opening scene suggests a low-budget affair, but the effects do improve after that and the darkness in the tunnels helps in hiding some of the less than perfect effects as well. For half the film, we are treated to a lot of drama between the two as we find out more about the two characters and their lives before ending in the tunnels. They must try and build trust in order to get out alive. About halfway through, we get to see more of what lurks in the dark as their lives are put in danger from larger insects looking for a meal.
From there, the tension and suspense picks up and the film becomes a full-blown claustrophobic nightmare that will have you on the edge of your seat all the way to the end. Jamie Costa and Emalia are terrific in the film and have great chemistry together. The film is not perfect, but it is a solid, scary and often terrifying horror/thriller that fans are going to enjoy. Scurry debuts on digital platforms on October 3, coinciding with a limited theatrical run, so check it out.
