Cast: Doug Erholtz, Wendee Lee, Marianne Miller
Wishing to create a new world where clean lines replace emotions and the polar wind cools human souls, the Snow Queen has blanketed the world in ice and set out to destroy all art. According to the predictions of a magic mirror, the last threat to the Snow Queen comes from the master glass-maker Vegard, whose mirrors reflect not only appearances but also souls. One day the polar wind takes away Vegard and his wife Una. But they manage to hide their baby boy Kai and daughter Gerda. Time passes, the servant of the Snow Queen finds Gerda's brother Kai, whom he believes to be Vegard s successor. When Kai is abducted to the Snow Queen s palace, Gerda embarks on a journey across the icy wonderland, facing difficult obstacles and finding new friends on her quest to set Kai free, defeat the Snow Queen and warm the hearts of people everywhere.
Fresh from a Theatrical released SNOW QUEEN is finally available on DVD for all families to enjoy. I am not going to go into any major details about what happens in the film so not to ruin the fun but I can tell you that it wastes no time getting started as the winter frost hunts down a man, a wizard who is a treat to the Snow Queen but before it can get to him he manages to tell his wife to hide the children. Years pass as the two children are living in an orphanage but they do not know they are brother and sister. Not until the evil Snow Queen captures Kai and Greta decides to travel and safe him.
One thing I took notice of right from the start was the animation, you can see why this was in theaters. It is very well done and you can tell they spent a decent amount of money making the film. The film was originally in Russian but I could not tell it was dubbed into English, I am sure the film being animated helped with that but either way I enjoyed the dub job. The filmmakers gave the story a modern spin so there are some changes made to the original Hans Christian Andersen story but it is just as entertaining.
Hopefully instead of getting lost in hype of the new Disney film, Frozen it encourages people to pick this one up as well. This is a fast paced, well written story with many fun characters and wonderful animation that the entire family will enjoy.
SNOW QUEEN is a must buy family film, available on DVD now. You can order it HERE.
