After a painful breakup, small-town Gemma moves to Los Angeles with the hopes of making it big. To get on her feet, she takes a job working the overnight shift at Somnium - a mysterious, experimental sleep clinic where dreams are made real. Meanwhile, Gemma throws herself into the cutthroat world of Hollywood auditions. But as the pressure to succeed mounts, she begins to experience strange and unsettling phenomena, and soon finds herself trapped in a nightmarish spiral as she discovers a darkness lurking within the clinic walls.
'Somnium' tells the story of Gemma who leaves her small home town in hopes of becoming a movie star in Hollywood but finds it much more difficult after several failed auditions. Desperate to earn money she takes a job at Somnium a experimental sleep clinic that promises to make dreams come true but as she begins her night shift she begins to have scary visions and things start becoming very strange for her. The more she finds out about what her new job does the more she begins to suspect things are not what they seem but can she escape the nightmares she has become trapped in?
'Somnium' is a slow moving film that asks its audience to take a ride with Gemma its main character as she pursues her dream of becoming an actress. Her story sucks you in right from the start and you want the best for this young lady but then the story takes on a more sinister turn filled with Horror and Sci-Fi. After sucking you in right from the start it then leaves you with many what the hell moments as you guess what is going on and what is going to happen next.
It has been a decade bringing this film from an idea to a theatrical release for Writer/Director, Racheal Cain but it has been worth the time.
This is an edge of your seat thriller that will have you in suspense the entire time as it keeps you in mystery all the way to its amazing finish. With all the great things the story has going for it the cast that takes the story and elevates it even higher including, Chloë Levine, Will Peltz, Peter Vack, Johnathon Schaech and Grace Van Dien. Chloë Levine in particular does an amazing job playing Gemma and her complex life.
'Somnium' is thought provoking thriller that is sure to gain a huge following its theatrical release dates of August 29 in LA, September 6 in NYC followed by its Streaming on Digital HD September 9. It will also be released will be released in the UK & Ireland from 8th September. The film is a gem that should not be missed with its brilliant story-telling and exceptional cast it is one of the best films you will see this year.. Do yourself a favor and do not miss checking this one out.
