The Place For The Latest Movie Reviews
In SUPERCON, its another weekend, another comic convention for former TV actor Keith Mahar (Peters). Most people don’t recognize Keith. His only claim to fame was as a child star in an 80’s television show. Keith reluctantly joins his close friends, cartoon voice-over actor Matt (Kwanten) ,comic book artist Allison (Grace) ,and 80’s TV star Brock (Braselman),who are also working the convention, but things take a turn for the worst when Keith’s former co-star and Supercon’s big ticket draw for the weekend — Adam King (Brown) — decides to have this group fired and banned from the convention with the help of the convention promoter. This launches the friends on a crusade to bring down King and the promoter in the most epic way imaginable.
"Supercon" tells the story of Keith, a former child actor, Matt, a former TV star, Allison, a comic artist and former 80's TV star, Brock. They are attending this year's Supercon like they do all comic conventions. It is their way of making money since most of their careers are over. This year's Supercon also has another former star, the Iconic, Adam King. King is always a big draw and he knows it and he has no problem charging high prices for signed pictures and autographs. When King and Keith get into a fight King has the group fired and banned from Supercon forever but the gang has other ideas and hatch a plan to get even with both King and the con's promoter.
"Supercon" is an adult comedy that should appeal to both comic and cosplay fans alike. It is also for anyone that just likes a good comedy. Every other line in the film is a joke, some are a miss but most are a hit. I found myself laughing out loud numerous times during the film and the characters are developed just enough so I had no problem in rooting for them in one way or another.
Besides the movie references, costumes and humor the film also benefits from a great cast. Ryan Kwanten, Maggie Grace, Clancy Brown and comedian Russell Peters are all fantastic but the cast doesn't end there. The film also has star power in having the amazing John Malkovich in the film as well as having Brooks Braselman and Mike Epps. This is an excellent ensemble cast and they all help in making it a fun film.
"Supercon" isn't a perfect comedy by any means but it is a fast paced and very funny one that all fans of comedy should enjoy. Director, Zak Knutson does a great job keeping the laughs coming and film moving at a nice pace. He also tosses in a hint of romance and a little drama but neither take away from the film's main goal...making people laugh. So I highly recommend checking it out when it opens in theaters and on VOD and Digital HD April 27, 2018.
