A group of longtime friends converge on a fatal course with destiny when they cross paths with Alexander Tatum, a mercenary surgeon. He is a hunter with the keen skill of one who has also been hunted. Prey turned predator. The victims quickly realize that Alexander is just the beginning of their problems, as they find themselves enmeshed in a fight for survival against a sociopath business man and his demonic staff, who will stop at nothing to prevail in the sale of Black Market Body Parts.
Sutures starts off like so many other slasher films have in the past, a group of med students go to a cabin for partying and relaxation only to be picked off one by one for their body parts that are sold on the black market. That all might sound like you seen the film before but somewhere along the way Sutures takes a turn that sets it apart from a lot of others like it. The basic set-up is, medical student Sienna is found laying on a country road in the back woods, she is the only survivor after her and five friends were attacked. In the hospital she is interviewed by police detective Zane. The story is then told to him in flashbacks, normally I am not a big fan of this time of story-telling but it worked well here. Sutures is one of those films where the more you talk about the story the higher the chances are of giving too much away so I think you already know enough about it. The film works on many levels, one being the cast, the film's main star-power is Jason London but the entire cast are all terrific at playing their roles and making them as believable as possible. Another plus here is the characters, mainly the killer, who is given a back story so we can at least know what his motives are here besides the obvious money part of it. The story is pretty well written and it provides a number of twists and turns that keeps you not only guessing but on the edge as well. There's a good amount of gore in the film and considering the budget I thought for the most part it was very well done. The story towards the end becomes a little hectic with a few sudden twists tossed in but I certainly welcomed the originality in an otherwise stagnant genre. Sutures isn't a great film but it is a highly entertaining one that provides gore, a few scares and some original ideas. If you're a fan of the horror then I highly recommend picking this one one today. The film grabbed my attention right from the start and it kept be in anticipation till the very end.
