Jake, a videographer, discovers a portal to another dimension in which he has everything he has always wanted: the perfect version of his wife, the career of his dreams, and the daughter he never had. He starts traveling back and forth between these two worlds but soon sees that his alternate is not as perfect as he seems, and perfection comes with a price.
'The Alternate' tells the story of Jake, a struggling filmmaker who is unhappy doing his corporate video shoots. While doing his latest shoot a dot shows up on the screen that he has no answer for. Investigating it more at home he finds that the spot is actually a portal to another dimension. His curiosity gets the best of him but when he crosses over he finds an alternative life of his. In his alternate universe, Jake is of course married to his wife but he has a successful movie career and they have a child as well. This is a far cry from his normal life in which the couple is struggling mainly due to Jake's like of motivation.
As Jake becomes more and more intrigued with his more successful self and his more loving wife. But the decisions he is going to make put everything he has in jeopardy.
'The Alternate' is a character and story drive Sci-Fi Thriller That peaks your interest right from the start and it keeps you glued to the screen the entire film as you wait to find out what bad decisions JAke is going to make and to what end. The film was Produced by Jeffrey Allard, executive producer of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, and directed by Alrik Bursell.
This is a well-made film considering the budget with limited but very well-done effects. Its strength lies in the writing and the incredible cast including Natalia Dominguez who stars as Kris, Jake's wife. She also co-wrote the film. Ed Gonzalez Moreno atars as Jake times two and does a fantastic job with the role. The supporting cast was all terrific as well.
'The Alternate' is one of the better films I have seen in some time. It tells a story of greed and the consequences that come from your actions. The film also happens to have an awesome ending, one I was not expecting but loved. I can't recommend this film enough, a tight and gripping story that will stay with you long after it is over.
