A stressed out lawyer and mother of three gets her yuletide wish when she wishes to see what her life would be like if she had chosen to pursue her career in Law rather than marrying and becoming a working mother.
It is that time of year when the video market gets hit with loads of Christmas films, some are made strictly for children while others like this one are more geared towards adults. The story at is pretty basic, Sophie is having a hard time managing her life as a Lawyer and mother of three. One day while at the mall she runs into a old friend who seems to be living the perfect life of fancy clothes, no children and being the owner of a Lawyer firm. When Sophie goes to let the children sit on Santa's lap he asks her what she wants for Christmas. Of course knowing Santa isn't real she says she wants her friend's life but what she doesn't know is this Santa is an angel stuck here on earth till he does enough right to go back so when Sophie wakes the next morning she finds that she now has the life she wanted but it comes with a price. The rest of the film is about her attempt to get back her old life but there is plenty of obstacles in the way and lots of laughs as well. Lea Thompson is terrific as Sophie, it is nice to see her in a movie again and she is perfect in the comedic and dramatic parts of the film. The supporting cast cast is amazing as well and I got to say that Doug Abrahams was great as Santa and all the other characters he appears as during the film. This was a made-for-TV film but it plays much bigger and is smartly written. Like I said before I do not think this works for the little ones but it is certainly an entertaining film that should appeal to adults plus there is some nice lessons along the way and the message of being grateful for what you have in your life. The Christmas Clause is a film filled with love,laughter and the meaning of family we seem to only see this time of year. I recommend picking this one up, you are sure to have fun watching it and you might even be a little more thankful for all the little things you have in your life as well.
