Laurence Fishburne (The Matrix), Bill Paxton (Aliens) and Kevin Zegers (Dawn of the Dead), headline an all-star cast in this savage and unrelenting thriller about mankind's greatest enemy: himself. As an endless winter engulfs Earth, humans struggle to survive in remote underground outposts. When Colony 7 receives a distress call from a nearby settlement, Sam (Zegers) and Briggs (Fishburne) race through the snow on a dangerous rescue mission. What they find at the desolate base could mean mankind's salvation—or its total annihilation. Terrifying discoveries will unfold that will change the rules of survival forever.

One day it began to snow and it never stopped, "The Colony" centers on a group of survivors who are stationed underground at Colony 7. The keep strict rules which are important to their survival, they also have their own livestock and grow their own food as well. One day they receive a distress call from Colony 5. They get a search party of three together and head out into the cold to see what has happened. One thing they find gives them renewed hope while the other will put them in a life or death struggle.

This is really a tough film to talk about because the plot is pretty simple and under developed if you ask me. I really wanted to check this out mainly for the cast and because I like this sort of film but in the end I felt the story let down the actors here who do their best with what they have to work with. The film had a limited showing in theaters and you can tell by watching it the reason why. I was not overly impressed with the effects that are used to create the world in which these people are in and like I already stated the plot could of used a bit of work.

I already stated that I liked the cast which includes, Bill Paxton, Laurence Fishburne and Kevin Zegers. All three give good performances, all things considered. The story itself starts off a bit slow which I was ok with since it introduced us the characters and set up the story and once the action kicked in it provided some suspense but it never went that extra yard I was expecting it to. "The Colony" is not a bad film but it's not a very good one either. It is average at best and it is never scary at all...there is some tension and suspense but in the end neither can save the film. And lastly I felt the ending was rushed, I am not sure what other options they had to end the film with but I just did not like how it ended.

So if you like this sort of end of the world film then I recommend a rental first but if you saw the film already and are set on buying it then it is available on DVD and Blu-ray with Special Features that include:

Deleted Scenes

Interviews with Cast and Crew
