In THE DARK AND THE WICKED, on a secluded farm, a man is bedridden and fighting through his final breaths while his wife slowly succumbs to overwhelming grief. Siblings Louise (Marin Ireland) and Michael (Michael Abbott Jr.) return home to help, but it doesn’t take long for them to see that something’s wrong with mom—something more than her heavy sorrow. Gradually, they begin to suffer a darkness similar to their mother’s, marked by waking nightmares and a growing sense that an evil entity is taking over their family.

'The Dark and the Wicked' tells the story of siblings, Michael and Louise as they return to their family farm to help care for their father who is on his death bed. Their mother tells them not to come and when they do she encourages them to leave right away. But they stay anyway and help around the farm but soon they realize something isn't right. Their mother is acting very strange and before long they find her hung in the barn but there is no way she could not have done it herself. Michael and Louise also start seeing and hearing strange things but is it too late for them to escape the evil?

This is one of those films that the less you know about it the better off you are so not to spoil if for yourself. The film starts off with a scene before the opening credits. It is a moody and dark and it contains several jump scares to get the blood flowing before advancing to when the two children arrive at the farm.

'The Dark and the Wicked' was written and directed by Bryan Bertino who also did "The Strangers." This is a slow burn horror film that is gloomy and depressing so there is nothing happy about it but it is also very effective and at times extremely frightening and bloody.

For some it might be a bit too slow but what this film does what many others fail to do and that is actually scare people. I highly recommend this is all horror fans.
