Six college friends meet up for a carefree weekend that turns deadly. A terrorist attack in a nearby town infects much of the townspeople with a deadly virus that induces rabies-like symptoms, only far more severe. Several of those infected attack the estate where the friends have been vacationing. Can they survive? Where will they hide? Is anyone left? Will we ever get our fill of these flesh eating zombie fiends?

"The Demented" follows 6 friends as they hope to spend an enjoyable weekend away from the city but when a terrorist attack results in a missile landing in a nearby town it leaves those still alive infected with what can only be described as a bad case of the rabies.

That is all you need to know before watching this thriller. One thing that struck me about the film was the fact that it did not really have any gore in it. Instead the film focuses on the group of friends who try to escape the chaos and treat from those infected.

What the film lacks in blood and guts in more than makes up for in other areas. For starters the cast did a pretty solid job playing their characters, these are character we have all seen before but it did not seem to matter to me. And what really made up for the lack of gore is the film's tension and suspense which are both in high gear through out the entire film. There are also a few surprises a long the way as well.

The film was not what I expected it to be but I was fine with that because it turned out to be a potent, action-packed thrill ride that kept the metal to the medal all the way to the end. I am not going to give anything spoilers away here but I want to see that I loved the films ending. A lot of times these films disappoint right at the end but I loved the way the filmmakers ended this one.

The bottom line is if you go into this thinking you are going to see an all out zombie film with plenty of gore you are going to be left disappointed, I suggest having an open mind and think of it as more an action/thriller and you will enjoy it as much as I did. There is a lot to like here and I for one am glad the film was a bit different.
