Heavily in debt to the Mexican mafia, small-time crook Luke (C. Thomas Howell) hatches a moneymaking scheme that could solve all of his woes. Enlisting the aid of his pals Courtney (Tanya Allen) and Josh (Michael Welch), Luke starts up a steamy all-girl Web site. But entrepreneurship comes with plenty of obstacles including double-crossing employees, impatient investors, deadly mobsters and more.
The Grind offers a style that is similar to films such as "The Boondock Saints" or something Guy Richie might direct. The cast is a mix bag but a popular one at least whith people such as C. Thomas Howell, Twilight's Michael Welch, Tom Sizemore and Danny Trejo. Sizemore and Trejo have small but important roles in the film and are easily the best out of the cast as far as performance goes. I would of liked to have seen Sizemore in a bigger role but with the problems he has had and continues to have I suppose he is lucky to be working at all but I have always felt that he was and still is a terrific actor. Not much more to say about the story itself other than what is written above and you really shouldn't read any more into the story before seeing it simply because it might ruin it all because this is one film where the less you know the better. Primarily a "guy" film with the story and female flesh that is shown in a lot of scenes but the ladies that liked the popular "Twilight" films will be glad to see Michael Welch in the film and with a nice size role as well. Certainly not without it flaws, the soundtrack for example could of been toned down a bit and the dialogue and story could of been written a bit better but for what the movie promises I felt it did a pretty good job at delivering on it. A few things I liked besides the cast was the gritty camera work which doesn't always work but does here and the pacing of the story was very good as well, I was entertained till the very end and that is all you can ask for from any film. I have always been a fan of C. Thomas Howell as well and thought he did a good job for the most part here, I did find him over-acting in a few scenes but that was minor flaws in his over-all performance. Again I have to push this film towards you guys, this is a fast-paced thriller that contains some nice action and flesh to please any fan of the genre. I recommend picking this one up if you get the chance and seeing it for yourself, I think most of you will agree that The Grind is an entertaining film that if nothing else was a lot of fun to watch.
