A young woman named Tracy, ventures out with some friends on a hiking trip that turns into a nightmare. That is her story but will anyone believe her? For Tracy, even reality becomes a place of terror. After waking up in a hospital with no connection to the outside world and no exits, she pleads with a mysterious doctor for answers. The further Tracy progresses through her psychiatric evaluation, the stranger her story becomes. She must unravel the mystery of her past and learn the fate of her friends before she goes insane.
What I have learned over time is that Independent cinema can be really special, it seems with their low budgets they rely more on telling a good story and The Hiking Trip is a pure example of just how good it can be. This is one of those films that grabs a hold of you from it's opening frames and never lets you go till the credits begin to roll. The Hiking Trip is a film that is a mix of genres, it's a mystery, a horror and mainly a psychological thriller that plays mind games with the audience, It keeps you on the edge of your seat waiting and wondering what will happen next. The entire cast here is terrific but it is Kortney Adams who plays Tracy, the lead character that truly gives a fantastic performance. Right from the start you feel for her but as the movie moves along you begin to question if all of the events really happened or if it was all in her mind. The Hiking Trip is one of those films where you less you know about it the better off you are but it is one of the best films I have seen in some time that keeps the audience always thinking, guessing and wanting to know more. Robert Parent co-wrote and directed his first film here which I found to be very impressive considering the budget he had to work with. I look forward to seeing what he has coming out next and I also look forward to seeing what this impressive cast is up to next as well. If you like a good horror/thriller that keeps you on the edge of your seat and guessing the entire time then I suggest picking this one up, I was impressed with The Hiking Trip from it's setting down to it's sountrack and highly recommend it to all fans of the genre.
