Keeping up with the Joneses (Demi Moore, David Duchovny, Amber Heard and Ben Hollingsworth) is next to impossible, considering they're a family with good looks, fancy cars, a sprawling estate -- and a shocking secret the neighbors would never guess.
David Duchovny stars as Steve Jones, a middle aged successful salesman who lives with Katherine Jones, played by Demi Moore. The film is a fun look at material things and their effects on our lives. It also has something to say about life in the suburbs, and the way we connect with one another. writer/director Derrick Borte does not put down or hate materialism altogether, but he instead pieces together a morality tale of sorts warning against allowing our desires to own material things to consume our lives. It sounds as if the film could be a real downer but it really isn't. The film isn't a laugh a minute movie but it does have some funny moments, the material which could of easily been made to preach is instead made a bit lighter and given a more curious feel to it. The cast does a terrific job here including, David Duchovny and Demi Moore as well as Amber Heard, each play their roles perfectly and they all have great chemistry together. I don't think the film itself is for everyone but I did like it more than I expected I would and the story also made me feel for the characters as well as each one attempts to make changes in their lives for the better. I wasn't expecting much from the film but in the end I was pleasantly surprised at how much I did enjoyed it. If you like the film's stars then you are going to enjoy the film because the entire cast shines and if you're looking for something a bit different then you're in for a treat as well because The Joneses is certainly different.
I can't say that it is great film but I was entertained the entire time, the story seems a little confusing at first but it unfolds nicely as it moves along. The Joneses is available on Blu-ray and DVD and both contain Special Features that include:
